The derrickman does the pump inspection at the end of every tour and writes it up when he remembers. Here he says it into the radio at the pump: the fluid end, the liner, the pop-off, the pressure gauge. The findings are structured, the isolation is confirmed rather than assumed, and the work order goes to the rig’s maintenance system with the photographs on it.

Hot work on the pit walkway, held until the toolpusher signs
A welder on the mud pit walkway is the hot work permit every drilling contractor issues weekly and the one where a checklist filled in by habit does the damage. The harness fills it from what the rig supervisor says, asks for the gas readings at the pit by number, leaves the fire watch open because it was not confirmed, and holds the permit for the toolpusher. The agent prepares; the toolpusher authorises.
